Ryosokuin Multiverse Exhibition 2021
Ryosokuin Multiverse Exhibition 2022
This exhibition is open to the public as part of a framework of the XEXE project that proposes new means of communication, promoted by Vice Abbot of Toryo Ito of Ryosokuin zen temple.
It is an exhibition that revolves around the “MOXE” project that aims to gain new perspectives from experiences by utilising technology from communications of various styles presented in the XEXE project.
In addition to the technological creative firm “THINK AND SENSE” promoting collaboration in the “MOXE” project, works of Ikenobou Senko (flower arrangement artists) and Akiko Nakayama (MUTEK.JP curation) will also be exhibited.
Virtual Ryosokuin is a project that explores the multi-dimensional purpose of the temple.
There are several Ryosokuin temples with different experiences within Unkai (Sea of Clouds).
Virtual Ryosokuin is a project that explores the multiple-dimensional purpose of the temple by pursuing communication within the temple beyond its physical location.
Our challenge is to provide the communication provided by the temple beyond its physical location rather than as a cultural property archive in virtual space.
In other words, Virtual Ryosokuin is not a fictional virtual version of Ryosokuin zen temple, it is a different aspect of Ryosokuin constructed by digital technologies that certainly exist.
The term “metaverse”, which has been attracting attention recently, is an alternative three-dimensional virtual space to the real world.
In Virtual Ryosokuin, instead of a replicated fictional world, we construct a multiverse by observing the real world from a different perspective and stance, and by acknowledging its existence of multiple-dimensional aspects and diverse purposes.
